What year does Far Cry 6 take place?

The imagery shown throughout the game has confused a portion of the game’s community as to when does the action we go through in the story is happening year-wise and we will tell you the answer.
What year does Far Cry 6 take place?

After over two years of waiting since the last edition of the franchise came out, Far Cry 6 has had a fairly warm welcome among the gaming community.

As always, there is always a complaint here and there but so far things have run smoothly and the game seems to have met the expectations we had to begin with.

Besides that, there has been a raging question among the community as to the game´s official timeline and we went on a research spree to find out the answer and share it with everyone.

What year is when the Far Cry 6 story in unfolding?

The short answer is that the game starts around October of 2021. We can easily assume that because whenever we start the game the protagonist´s ID is marked “Recruited on: 7 October 2021”.

This hypothesis is reinforced by analyzing the succession of events as whenever we get a hold of a newspaper we can see that is dated November 2020 but it discusses the arrival of Libertad to Yara.

Considering that whenever we speak to Carla, leader of Libertad, she tells us the story of the group’s defeat and how they lost 90% of their troops and this happens after we escape from the Castillo’s people.

When we roam around in Yara again, the calendars are all turned to October but no year is listed, although the implied sequence leads us to believe that it has been almost a year since the arrival of Libertad.

The Castillo dictatorship in Yara can definitely explain the antique visuals and how everything seems from the past, aside from the smartphones, as no other country wants to deal with Yara because of the Viviro holdout.

Hopefully, this clears the smoke a little bit and helps you enjoy the game even more as your quest to take down Antón Castillo is already en route.
