FC 27 Ultimate Team Overhauled: Every Confirmed Change for FUT 27

Holographic football player cards floating in futuristic stadium with sci-fi lighting effects

EA Sports has laid out the biggest changes coming to FC 27 Ultimate Team, and there’s enough here to genuinely shake up how the mode plays from day one. The headline additions include a new item rarity, a reworked SBC system, and a collection mode that brings back one of FUT’s oldest mechanics.

All FC 27 Ultimate Team Changes Explained

The changes span everything from how you build squads to how you track your club history. Here’s a breakdown of every confirmed addition.

Holographic Items

Holographic items are a brand-new rarity tier arriving in FUT 27. These items come with a distinct card design, and the mechanic is not restricted to specific players – according to leaks, it could apply to various categories such as Icon cards, Hero cards, and current Gold cards. Some holographic cards will feature a player’s autograph, leaning into a genuine collectible angle, and certain cards will carry a serial number indicating the limited quantity issued. When you pull one from a pack, the opening animation gets a full upgrade: leaks point to the entire stadium shifting into a sci-fi black-and-white palette.

Collection Book Mode

FC 27 Ultimate Team will introduce a Collection Book Mode – a return to the original core mechanic from when Ultimate Team first launched in FIFA 09. In this mode, simply packing a player automatically adds them to your collection book, and they remain there even if you later discard or sell them. You can exchange or submit these players without losing them from your collection. If you submit a certain number of players, you will receive a special card, coins, or other rewards depending on the quality of the players you submit.

Simplified SBCs

FC 27 introduces a new points-based approach to Squad Building Challenges designed to strip out the busywork. Each player item carries a point value, and you can complete a challenge in one click provided you hit the target total, regardless of the specific players used. You will also be able to submit the same card multiple times within a single Squad Building Challenge. If an SBC requires 500 points, for example, submitting a Team of the Season card worth exactly 500 points lets you instantly complete the challenge with just one click – a flexibility the old rating-and-chemistry setup never offered.

Single-Player Live Events

Single-player Live Events are also joining Ultimate Team in FC 27, adding a new way to engage with time-limited content outside of multiplayer.

Those are all the confirmed Ultimate Team changes heading into EA Sports FC 27, due to launch on September 25th.
