EVO 2020 line-up revealed and there’s no Mortal Kombat 11

The line-up for EVO 2020 has been revealed, featuring one major snub alongside Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.
  • EVO 2020 line-up leaves out Mortal Kombat 11 despite being released last year
  • Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 makes its return in a special invitational
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee is left out for a second year running

While last year’s Evolution (EVO) saw many kick off over Super Smash Bros. Melee’s omission, EVO 2020’s line-up looks set to rile up Mortal Kombat 11 fans.

This year’s tournament line-up includes many of the usual suspects, including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Street Fighter V Champion Edition, Tekken 7, and SoulCalibur VI.

Dragon Ball FighterZ, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Under Night In-Birth, Samurai Shodown, and Granblue Fantasy Versus take up the remaining slots – leaving out Mortal Kombat 11 entirely.

It’s surprising considering Mortal Kombat 11 featured at last year’s tournament, with the title also one of the best-selling games of 2019.

Mortal Kombat 11 also made significant changes to make it more viable as an esports title, although this decision might sway a potential follow-up in the opposite direction.

Other omissions include BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle which featured last year, along with Super Smash Bros. Melee's exclusion for a second year running.

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 is the most notable return, which is represented in a “tournament of champions” to mark the title's 20th anniversary. The special tournament will see a total of eight invited players compete, four of which will be past EVO winners in the title.

You can check out the full list of games below.

  • Under Night In-Birth

  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

  • Dragon Ball FighterZ

  • Tekken 7

  • Marvel Vs. Capcom 2

  • SoulCalibur VI

  • GranBlue Fantasy Versus

  • Samurai Shodown

EVO 2020 takes place in Las Vegas from 31st July to 2nd August.
