FIFA 23 Liga Portugal Team of the Season Predictions

Everything you need to know about the FIFA 23 Liga Portugal Team of the Season, Release Date, Predictions, Who's In?
FIFA 23 Liga Portugal Team of the Season Predictions

The Portuguese League has a reputation for being uncompetitive, with Porto and Benfica dominating the country for years and years. In recent years, that balance had been upset by Sporting, with Benfica without a league victory since the 18-19 season. That was until this season as Benfica, led by manager Roger Schmidt, returned to form and lifted the Liga Portugal Trophy.

But what does that mean for FIFA players? Well, for starters, the Liga Portugal has always tended to produce great FUT cards. FIFA 19’s TOTS featured a combination of Eder Militao, Bruno Fernandes and Joao Felix just as an example.

Read on for everything you’ll need to know about the Liga Portugal Team of the Season.

When Is It Released?

The Liga Portugal TOTS will be released Sunday June 4th at 18:00 BST. This will be the last minor league Team of the Season to be released in FIFA 23.

Who’s Included?

The minor league TOTS have usually contained 11 players, 8 of which are in packs while the rest are obtainable through squad building challenges and objectives.

Who Have We Predicted?

Here’s the 11 players we think you can expect to see in this season’s team.

Defence

GK Odisseas Vlachodimos

The Greek goalkeeper hasn’t featured in the Liga Portugal TOTS since FIFA 19, but after Benfica finished the season with the lowest amount of goals conceded it’s a no brainer to include him this year.

CB Pepe

This team has a giant right back shaped hole in it following Pedro Porro’s move to Tottenham in January, meaning we’re predicting two centre backs in the team. This could well go to Pepe, whose 24 appearances for Porto have played a part in them forming the 2nd league goals conceded this season.

CB Nicolás Otamendi

Another member of the solid Benfica defence, Otamendi’s Liga Portugal winners medal will now sit alongside a World Cup medal rounding off one of his best ever seasons at the age of 35.

LB Alex Grimaldo

It wouldn’t be a Portuguese TOTS without Grimaldo. Featuring in the last 3 in a row, the Spaniard is a lock for the left back position most years, and 9 assists this season will only have solidified that position.

Midfield

RM Otávio

Another that’s featured in the last 3 TOTS for Porto, Otávio looks set to pick up another, this time with his new Portuguese nationality. His 5 goals and 7 assists don’t tell the full story of how important he has been to Porto’s season

CDM Manuel Ugarte

Somewhat of a wild card, Ugarte doesn’t have the numbers to show he’s had a good season and Sporting’s 4th placed finish doesn’t help things either. What does help, however, is that it seems like every top club in Europe is about to bid for one of the most highly rated young players in the world.

CAM Pedro Gonçalves

Whether you know him as Gonçalves or Pote, the Portuguese midfielder has once again shown incredible numbers in the Sporting midfield. 15 goals and 11 assists are impressive, but maybe nothing impresses more than his half way line goal that knocked Arsenal out of the Europa League.

CM João Mário

We’re not sure what position João Mário is going to earn his TOTS card in, but we just know that he’s definitely going to get one. His 17 goals and 7 assists off the right wing suggest it’ll be a RW card, but maybe EA will stick with CM and give him a range of alternate positions.

Attack

ST Gonçalo Ramos

Probably most famous for displacing Cristiano Ronaldo at the World Cup and scoring a hat trick against Switzerland, Ramos has had a memorable season topped off with lifting the Portuguese League trophy with Benfica, scoring 19 goals along the way.

ST Mehdi Taremi

The Liga Portugal golden boot will be a consolation prize for Taremi after finishing runners up with Porto, but his 22 goals and 7 assists show an incredible individual season. Taremi also found fame in the World Cup, with his 2 goals against England in the group stage for Iran.

CF Ricardo Horta

A third placed finish with Braga paired with 18 goals should be enough to earn Horta a TOTS card. The uncertainty will be around his position as he’s played left mid for the majority of the season, earned an inform at CAM and finished the season up front. Just to be safe we’ll go with what his base card says, a centre forward.
