Guilty Gear Strive beta suffers major connection issues, developer offers fix

The first beta for Guilty Gear Strive hasn’t been the smoothest experience, with developers offering a temporary solution to widespread lobby connection issues.
Guilty Gear Strive beta suffers major connection issues, developer offers fix

Guilty Gear Strive looks set to be one of the biggest fighting games of the year, although its first beta test hasn’t exactly shown its best qualities.

A closed beta for the title kicked off on 17th April, with many players encountering connection issues when finding a match in the game’s new lobby system.

Instead of controlling a 3D avatar like in Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator, the lobby for Guilty Gear Strive sees you control and customise a charming 2D sprite - as you’re assigned a room to match your skill level with other players.

Challenging players however often fails to connect within the lobby, with a message from the official Guilty Gear Twitter account citing large clusters of players trying to connect at once as the root cause.

“In the current closed beta test, we have confirmed there is difficulty to establish a match against multiple avatars in a crowded environment,” the statement reads.

“As a temporary measure, please keep your avatar away from others when setting up your weapon, and stay where you are.”

They also apologised for the ongoing issues with the beta, adding: “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

“We are taking all the reports and requests we received this time very seriously, and thank you for your continued cooperation in the beta testing of this game.”

Some notable FGC players have also highlighted the connection issues, with many streamers on Twitch failing to get into matches.

While issues are obviously expected in any beta, it certainly dampens the experience when anticipation for Guilty Gear Strive is high - so let’s hope the issues will be ironed out for any future beta down the line.

Guilty Gear Strive is set to be released on PlayStation 4 later this year, with the closed beta ending Sunday 19th April.
