Fortnite v16.40 patch notes: Release time, vaulted gun, new exotic, Oro NPC and more

What you need to know about the Fortnite v16.40 update, including the patch notes, a new Oro NPC, the vaulted gun, a new exotic weapon and more.

With a month left to go in Fortnite before Season 7 gets underway, Epic Games is unleashing the Fortnite v16.40 update. This appears to be a relatively minor update compared to some previous patches but there are still some nice new additions. While Epic Games doesn't release official notes anymore, we've got you covered with the unofficial Fortnite v16.40 patch notes, which include vaulted gun details, a new NPC arriving on the island, a new exotic weapon and more. Let's kick things off with the Fortnite v16.40 release time.

What's the Fortnite v16.40 release time?

The servers will go down in preparation for the update on 11th May 2021 at 08:00 UTC / 04:00 ET (09:00 for those in the UK).

Players should be able to download the Fortnite v16.40 update around this time. The exact release time for the update is currently unknown. However, we don't expect the server downtime to last more than three hours.

Vaulted & new Exotic weapon in Fortnite v16.40

For those who loved The Dub (exotic shotgun), we've got some bad news. The gun being vaulted in the Fortnite v16.40 update is non-other than The Dub.

In its place, a new Exotic Marksman Six-Shooter will appear. At the time of writing, the only information we have about the new Exotic weapon in the Fortnite v16:40 update is the following line from Epic Games: "Line ‘em up and knock ‘em down with the Exotic Marksman Six Shooter."

Fortnite v16.40 new NPC Oro

A new NPC called Oro has appeared on the small island below Flush Factory with the Fortnite v16.40 update.

We will update this article once we know more about the new NPC called Oro.

Fortnite v16.40 patch notes

As always, our source of information regarding bug fixes in a new Fortnite update is the official Trello board, where Epic Games marks certain fixes with "Fixed in the next game update".

Further, Epic Games shared the following two lines regarding the update:

  • New summer-themed additions in Creative
  • Catch a win in the next Wild Week starting May 13

The Wild Week starting 13th May 2021 will likely involve fishing.
