Fortnite will feature full modding support in 2021

Fortnite is about to change in a big way in 2021, as Epic Games announced during a developer stream that it will allow plays to mod the game by using the Unreal Engine tools the devs utilize to create the battle royale.

Fortnite has grown to be more than a battle royale thanks to Creative, which has helped cultivate the creativity of players, providing an outlet for them to mess in Fortnite's sandbox, coming up with different modes that Epic Games has highlighted over the years.

In a stream broadcasted on Unreal Engine's YouTube channel, Tim Sweeney, CEO and founder of Epic, alongside Lead Programmer Carlos Cuello and Zak Parrish, Technical Artist, explained how will fans be able to use these new tools.

Cuello wants users to know that this is not a replacement to the current Creative toolset, but rather an "extension," before proceeding to showcase the potential this could open up for creators.

Giving almost complete access to editing tools, players can craft all sorts of things to spice up the Fortnite world, with Cuello and Parrish crafting a shrine, which other players could see being built in real-time, whether they were on console or PC.

According to the devs, an early version of this feature is already available via Party Royale.

This is not the only thing coming to Fortnite as Tim Tillotson, Lead Programmer at Epic, shared they're also working on a game script that players can edit at will, featuring the Box Fight mode.

Within the code, users will have access to the nitty-gritty details that make Fortnite come to life, being able to tweak stuff such as materials to build, weapons available, and many more.

There's no timeframe for this feature to go live, but we can expect it "at some point during 2021."
