Cross-platform play in Fortnite is both a blessing and a curse, though its pros often outweight the cons. When a live service game like Fortnite enables cross-platform play, it improves the available player count across the board. Console players will find themselves in matches with PC players, and it also means friends on different platforms can team up together.

The downside, however, is that it creates a significant divide in how people play. PC players have the choice to play with either keyboard and mouse, or with a gamepad controller. As for console players, on PlayStation or Xbox, the option is only controller. Thankfully, aim assist helps to even the score.

What Is Aim Assist In Fortnite?

It's no secret that those who play with a keyboard and mouse typically have better control over their aim, owing to the general speed and accuracy afforded to them by a mouse. Not to mention, mouse sensitivity is generally more customizable than on controller.

But there are features in place that seek to level the playing field. Controller players can make use of aim assist to make aiming much easier. It won't automatically land you direct headshots or even guaranteed hits, but it will help you to stand on even ground with keyboard and mouse players.

It's a frequently contested feature, and the debate doesn't limit itself to just Fortnite but nearly all FPS games across the board. Many claim that aim assist mechanics can be too strong, giving controller players more of an advantage than necessary. Regardless, the power still tends to lie with keyboard and mouse, particularly for skilled players.
