A new report claims GTA 6 is targeting two distinct graphics modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X – a 30 fps mode and a 60 fps mode – though the higher frame rate option may not be ready when the game launches.
According to Polish journalist Borys Niespielak, Rockstar is reportedly “not 100% sure” the 60 fps mode will be ready at launch, which would explain why the studio has stayed completely silent on console performance targets so far. If the mode misses day one, the expectation is that it would arrive via a post-launch update rather than shipping in the box.

What About Xbox Series S?
The picture looks notably worse on Xbox Series S, with the same report suggesting Rockstar is targeting 1080p at 30 fps on that platform, with no 60 fps mode planned for it at all. That won’t come as a huge surprise given how often Series S has been the limiting factor in cross-gen conversations, but it’s still a tough pill to swallow for owners of Microsoft’s cheaper box.
Separate claims have pointed to PS5 Pro as the most likely route to a stable 60 fps experience, with reports indicating that PlayStation engineers are actively involved in optimisation work on the title. Given that GTA 6 is already being cited as a major driver of console purchase decisions, the prospect of a performance mode exclusive to PS5 Pro – even temporarily – will feed that conversation further.
How Reliable Are These Claims?
It’s worth keeping expectations measured here. Digital Foundry has been openly sceptical since the first trailer dropped, saying that 60 fps “doesn’t seem plausible” based on the visual ambition on display. Rockstar has not officially confirmed any performance modes, graphics settings, or console specs, and none of that is likely to change until the studio’s own marketing ramp-up kicks in closer to release.
Rockstar’s formal performance disclosure – whenever it comes – will be the moment to judge whether these claims land. Until then, the countdown to GTA 6’s launch rolls on with plenty still to be confirmed.
