GTA Online has one of the most robust communities in the gaming sphere. The game has been out for a long time and it has a vibrant community. This is between the people who play solo or those who do heists with their friends.
Speaking of playing with friends, does GTA Online allow for cross-play? After all, there are a large number of criminal careers that begs for groups to join together to do so. So, we will tell you about cross-play and its scope of it in GTA Online.
Is Cross-Play Available In GTA Online
GTA Online has been out since 2013, almost 10 years at the time of this writing. The online game was first released back when the PlayStation 3 was still new. As time moved on, the game evolved in many different ways.
However, there has always been one limitation that GTA Online has faced. As of right now, there is no cross-play in GTA Online. Despite the age of the game, Rockstar has not added cross-play to GTA Online. This is true between consoles and PC as well.
PS5 players cannot even play GTA Online with PS4 players. There is a bit of a catch here. Technically, it is true that a PS5 owner can play GTA Online with a PS4 owner. PS5 owners can play both the PS5 and the PS4 versions of the game. So if a PS5 owner wants to play with someone who has a PS4, they need to play the PS4 version of the game. The same is true with the Xbox versions of the game.
PC players are on their own as well. But despite whatever platform you buy GTA Online on, you will be able to play with any PC player.
Will Cross-Play Ever Happen For GTA Online?
At this point, it would be surprising if cross-play ever happened for GTA Online. The game is older and despite all the updates, Rockstar has had no indication that they are planning to allow for cross-platform play in GTA Online.
They could have their reasons for this but we do not know why that is. For now, you can only play GTA Online with people who own the same platform as you. If cross-play ever happens though, we will be sure to update you on that fact.
