Honkai Star Rail: Weakness Break & Toughness Explained

Honkai Star Rail has a lot of unique mechanics to keep players coming back for more. Whether you enjoy completing the many sidequests on offer, challenging the Forgotten Hall / Memory of Chaos, or taking interesting team compositions into the Simulated Universe, there is something for everyone in this game. However, wherever you go in the world of Honkai Star Rail, chances are you'll have to battle against some enemies.

Unlike more traditional RPGs that simply require players to reduce an enemy's HP to zero, Honkai Star Rail has a secondary mechanic to look out for, known as Weakness Break. Players will need to understand Weakness Break thoroughly; otherwise, their journey aboard the Astral Express may come to an end a lot sooner than they may have wanted.

So, if you are interested in learning more about Weakness Break in Honkai Star Rail, you've come to the right place. This article will cover everything you need to know about Weakness Break in Honkai Star Rail, including what it is, how to do it, and more.

Like most other gacha RPG games, Honkai Star Rail incorporates an Element system. Every enemy in the game will be "weak" to several other Element types. Every enemy will also come with a Toughness meter, indicated by a white bar above their health. In order to deplete an enemy's Toughness meter, players will need to attack that enemy with a corresponding Weakness Element. It is still possible to damage an enemy and even kill them without depleting their Toughness Bar at all. However, there are lots of benefits to depleting an enemy's Toughness Bar.

Weakness Break occurs after an enemy's Toughness has been reduced to zero. The enemy will be pushed back in the turn order, take a huge chunk of damage, and receive DoT based on the element that inflicted the Weakness Break. It is important to bring characters to a fight that are able to Weakness Break the enemy as, although you may be able to win without doing so, it will take a long time and is not guaranteed. Thankfully, enemies will often have multiple Weaknesses, meaning even if you do not have, for example, an Imaginary character on your account, you are free to bring someone else.
