Honkai Star Rail Elements Guide: Elemental System Explained

Elemental chains are present in a lot of RPGs. They are often used to distinguish characters even further beyond class and will determine the kinds of enemies the said character is strong against. Honkai Star Rail is no different, and players will need to learn what characters correspond to what Element type in order to be successful in combat.

What Are Elements In Honkai Star Rail?

As mentioned, Elements in Honkai Star Rail are a way to categorize characters based on what types of enemies they are strong against. Similar to Pokémon, certain enemies will be weak to certain Element-types in Honkai Star Rail. However, this is not as cut and dry as it is in Pokémon, for example, where a rock-paper-scissors system of "water beats fire" is in place. 

Instead, each enemy will have the Element they are weak to referenced by a small symbol above its head (usually three). Additionally, enemies do not take additional damage when struck by a super-effective move. They instead have their toughness reduced. When an enemy's toughness is reduced by a significant enough margin, you can inflict Weakness Break on them. From then onwards, the enemy will suffer additional damage based on the Element of the attack that reduced their toughness to zero. Players will need to plan accordingly to ensure the correct unit lands that finishing blow.  

The following is a list of all Elements in Honkai Star Rail and their corresponding Weakness Break debuff:

• Physical: Bleed
  
  • Deals additional physical damage and applies a Bleed DoT debuff.
• Fire: Burn
  
  • Deals additional fire damage and applies a Burn DoT debuff.
• Ice: Frozen
  
  • Prevents the enemy from taking any action and applies a Frozen DoT debuff.
• Lightning: Shock
  
  • Deals additional lightning damage and applies a Shock DoT debuff.
• Wind: Wind Shear
  
  • Deals additional wind damage and applies a Wind Shear DoT debuff.
• Quantum: Entanglement
  
  • Pushes the enemy back in the turn order and applies a Quantum DoT debuff. 
• Imaginary: Imprisonment
  
  • Pushes the enemy back in the turn order and reduced their speed. 

After being Weakness Broken, the enemy will recover the following turn and cannot be Weakness Broken again.
