How to complete the Deep Trouble side quest in Horizon Forbidden West

There are loads of main and side quests to complete in Horizon Forbidden West, most of which are quite tricky to figure out alone. The Deep Trouble is one of the first quests players will encounter after travelling to The Daunt, and fortunately, it's relatively straightforward to complete.

This side quest comes after completing The Point of the Lance main quest and tasks players with saving two miners trapped inside the Crimson Narrows, a mine over the mountains to the northeast of Chainscrape.

This guide explains all the steps you need to follow to complete the Deep Trouble side quest in Horizon Forbidden West. So, without any further ado, let's get started.

Horizon Forbidden West - Deep Trouble Side Quest Guide

Upon approaching the entrance of the mine, Aloy will talk to the foreman Korvend and his companion Valgend. Korvend explains that an explosion happened inside the mines, resulting in the entire place becoming flooded.

Korvend further explains that two of his miners are still trapped in the mine and he needs Aloy's help to get them out. We'll walk you through all the steps you need to do from here.

Find the missing Miners

First, run into the mine and go left at the mineshaft. Continue down the flooded passageway until you reach debris blocking your way. Dive underneath the impasse and swim back to the surface. You will now be inside a large cave.

You will notice a cache on top of a large rock and two more mineshafts. Ignore the cache (you can collect these later) and head in the direction of any of the two mineshafts. Then, dive underneath the water, making your way to the end of the tunnel.

Tip: You can push off certain objects underwater to boost your swimming speed.

Eventually, upon resurfacing, you'll reach the two miners, Thorden and Lokuf. Talk to the miners to activate a cutscene. Aloy will then be briefed on her next objective.

Find the blockage

You will then be tasked to find whatever is blocking the drainage shaft and use explosives to destroy it. After talking to Thorden, turn immediately left and dive under the flooded mineshaft.

You'll notice there is debris blocking the shaft, and Aloy will hint at using explosives in the minecart to clear the blockage. Make your way to the mine cart by jumping across the four beams.

You'll find yourself at another impasse. Crouch and make your way through the tunnel until you get to an opening in the cave. You'll then have to either take out or evade detection of three Burrowers.

Whatever your decision is, you'll need to navigate to the end of the cave and go left. Then make your way up the platform until you see minecart tracks. Follow the tracks to the end of the trail. Drop the ladder and then use your Pullcaster to pull the wooden crane towards you.

Jump onto the crane and make your way over to the other side. You will then activate the following objective: Detonate the explosives. To do this, run towards the minecart containing the explosives and press Triangle. The water will begin to drain, and you will have activated the next objective to return to the miners.

Return to the miners and leave the cave

Before you can do this, you will have to take out Scroungers after clearing the blockage. After killing them, head left and use your Pullcaster to clear two crates blocking the passage back to Thorden and Lokuf. After returning the stranded miners, Aloy must return to Korvend to clear the quest.

Tip: There are plenty of caches inside the cave. With the water gone, you can go back and open them a lot easier before completing the quest.
