DWG KIA and Pentanet.GG, first teams qualified for the MSI 2021

The road to the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational has officially begun, now that the finals of both the LoL Champions Korea (LCK) and the LoL Circuit Oceania (LCO) have been held, deciding the first teams to be invited to the international event in Iceland.

Here is the story of the final game of the first two confirmed teams at MSI 2021, DWG KIA and Pentanet.GG.

LCK Finals: DWG KIA vs Gen.G Esports

Starting with the most powerful league in the world, two great acquaintances on the international scene met for regional glory, with Gen.G qualifying to their first final since the 2020 Spring, they would be up against reigning world champions DWG KIA, formerly DAMWON Gaming.

Prior to this match, both achieved their qualification by beating both Hanwha Life Esports and T1 in two relatively easy matches for both sides, destroying their opponents with a resounding 3-0.

The first game between the two stood out for being focused on more precise plays and fights since although there were not many kills, the superior control of the map allowed DK to build an advantage ultimately taking the victory at 35 minutes.

The second match was a true display of DK's mettle and resource management, and a poor way for Gen.G to take advantage of their windows of opportunity since despite having had up to twelve kills more at one point in the game, they could not capitalize on this advantage and were defeated after 48 minutes.

The third and last game turned out to be nothing more than a formality for DK, against a Gen.G who failed to respond to all the initiatives of the current champions, who renewed their position as the best team in Korea, crowning themselves after an imposing 3-0 in the first season of the franchise format.

LCO Finals: Pentanet.GG vs PEACE

The first finals of the new Oceania regional league proved to be quite a battlefield, as two teams chasing their first regional title battled hard for the ticket to the MSI 2021.

As soon as they started, PEACE showed great initiative taking the first game with good control of objectives and excellent team fights, although their opponents would manage to tie the score in the next match.

In the third game, total war was unleashed within the Rift, wherewith the same amount of kills but with targets like the Baron and the Soul of the Oceans in their hands, Pentanet emerged victorious, putting them 2-1 up and on match point.

As with the LCK finals, the fourth game was a demonstration of power and skill by Pentanet, massacring PEACE in every aspect, however in the final minutes they started to fall against a resolute PEACE counterattack, even with their nexus turrets down.

The match would be ultimately decided by a classic backdoor, with which Pentanet.GG got their first regional title, also becoming the first champions of the League of Legends Circuit Oceania and its representatives for the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational.

Following the schedule, the third invitee to the MSI 2021 will be decided today at the Liga Latinoamérica (LLA) finals between Furious Gaming and Gillette Infinity Esports, while the Sunday will be packed up with the finals of the LJL from Japan, the LCS from North America, and the LEC from Europe.
