After six weeks of competition in which the ten LCS franchises faced each other in a double round-robin format, the regular season of the North American league has come to an end, opening the door for the next stage.

As announced a few months ago with the rebranding of the league, this time a new champion will not be crowned during the Spring, but a new competition will be held to define the best team in the LCS so far, and who will be the representative of the region at MSI 2021.

Here's what you need to know about the LCS 2021 Mid-Season Showdown, from how to watch all the action, to the teams competing, the format and the schedule.

LCS 2021 Mid-Season Showdown - Qualified Teams

The LCS 2021 Mid-Season Showdown will be the new competition that will define the team that will represent NA during the Mid-Season Invitational, where the top six teams from the regular season will meet again until one emerges victorious.

The six teams qualified for the LCS 2021 Mid-Season Showdown phase are:

  • Cloud9: Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami, Robert “Blaber” Huang, Luka “Perkz” Perković, Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen, Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme.
  • TSM: Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon, Mingyi “Spica” Lu, Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage, Lawrence “Lost” Sze, Hu “SwordArt” Shuo-Chieh.
  • Team Liquid: Barney “Alphari” Morris, Lucas “Santorin” Larsen, Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen, Edward “Tactical” Ra, Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in.
  • 100 Thieves: Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho, Can “Closer” Çelik, Tanner “Damonte” Damonte, Tommy “ry0ma” Le, Ian “FBI” Huang, Choi “huhi” Jae-hyun.
  • Dignitas: Aaron “FakeGod” Lee, Joshua “Dardoch” Hartnett, Max “Soligo” Soong, Toàn “Neo” Trần, Zaqueri “aphromoo” Black.
  • Evil Geniuses: Jeong “Impact” Eon-young, Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen, Daniele “Jiizuke” di Mauro, Matthew “Deftly” Chen, Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun.
 

LCS 2021 Mid-Season Showdown format

The LCS 2021 Mid-Season Showdown format will be somewhat different from previous years, as it faces fewer teams in a double-elimination bracket.

While the best four teams of the regular phase will face each other through the winner's bracket, the fifth and sixth seeds will do the same from the losers bracket, fighting for their survival from the first moment against those who fall from the winner's bracket.

All the games in this stage will be the best of five, while these will be divided around three weeks of competition until the 2021 Mid-Season Showdown champion is defined.

LCS 2021 Mid-Season Showdown prize pool

The prize pool for the best teams of the LCS 2021 Mid-Season Showdown will be divided as follows:

  • Champion: $100,000 USD
  • 2nd Place: $50,000 USD
  • 3rd Place: $30,000 USD
  • 4th Place: $20,000 USD

In addition to this, the team that manages to become champion will represent North America in the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational, to be played from 6th to 22nd May at the Laugardalshöll in Reykjavík, Iceland.

LCS 2021 Mid-Season Showdown match schedule:

  • TSM vs Team Liquid - 20th March, 1 pm PST
    Cloud9 vs 100 Thieves - 21st March, 1 pm PST
  • Loser Match 2 vs Evil Geniuses - 27th March, 1 pm PST
  • Loser Match 2 vs Dignitas - 28th March, 12 pm PST
