Lies Of P Guard System Explained
There are two types of Guards in Lies of P. The first one is basic blocking, called Guard, and the second is a perfect parry, called Perfect Guard.
Between these two, there's a hidden mechanic from Bloodborne, which in Lies of P is called Guard Regain, a state where you lose reduced HP while blocking attacks you can regain by attacking the enemy.
You can block almost every enemy attack in Lies of P, except for the Frenzy attacks, which you can identify as the enemies glow red before performing it, at the expense of Stamina and the reduced Damage that gets transferred to the Guard Regain state, which you can see in the above screenshot.
To regain your HP, you must attack any enemy before the Guard Regain state ends.
That being said, in Lies of P, you can even block Frenzy attacks with the help of Perfect Guard. Doing so will not put you in the Guard Regain state, implying you lose no HP and just Stamina.
Moreover, performing Perfect Guard should be your priority in Lies of P, instead of the easy and direct Guard action, as you can stagger enemies and even break their weapon when you perform Perfect Guard.
How To Block Attacks In Lies Of P
In Lies of P, you can block attacks using Guard action that you can perform by pressing the 'LB' button on your Xbox controller or the 'L1' button on your PS5 controller.
Can You Block All Attacks In Lies Of P
The short answer is yes, you can block every attack in Lies of P as regular attacks can be blocked using Guard in contrast to the Frenzy attacks that you can stop using Perfect Guard.
How To Do Perfect Parry (Perfect Guard) In Lies Of P
To do a Perfect Guard in Lies of P, press the Guard button (LB on Xbox, L1 on PS5) right before the attack is about to hit. Now, we know this information alone doesn't make you perform Perfect Guard.
That is why we are here with some tips on performing Perfect Guard in Lies of P, which you can find below.
Look At Enemy's Shoulder
Pay close attention to the enemy's shoulder movement instead of looking at the weapon or spamming the Guard button.
When they pull their hand back to perform an attack, right when they lock their hand, wait for one second and press the Guard button to Perfect Guard regular attacks.
You can see in the GIF file how we can perform Perfect Guard back-to-back without any problem.
There Is A Slight Dealy In Frenzy Attacks
A frenzy attack from any enemy in Lies of P comes with a slight delay than the regular attacks. So, instead of waiting for one second when the enemies lock their hands, you must wait for two seconds and, in the cases of some bosses, three seconds before pressing the Guard button.
Once again, you can watch the GIF file to see how we perform Perfect Guard for the incoming frenzy attack. You can also practice the Perfect Guard in the courtyard of Hotel Krat.
How To Stagger Enemies In Lies Of P
In Lies of P, you can stagger enemies by performing charged attacks or Perfect Guard.
In the latter's case, Perfect Guarding three or more times, the enemy's HP meter will start blinking in white. Perform a charged attack, and you will get a guaranteed stagger.
