Will Marathon Have Dedicated Servers?

In this article, we will explore the inclusion of dedicated servers in Marathon, the upcoming PvP sci-fi shooter from Bungie.
Will Marathon Have Dedicated Servers?

Bungie's unveiling of Marathon, a new PvP sci-fi extraction shooter, has piqued players' interest. They are particularly curious about how the game will establish itself as one of Sony's live service offerings. Given Bungie's past issues with titles like Destiny still awaiting its dedicated servers, players are eager to know if Marathon will have its own upon its launch.

To provide clarity and insight, we will delve into the specifics of Marathon and shed light on this pressing issue. So, without further delay, let's explore the game's details and address the burning question surrounding whether or not Marathon will have dedicated servers.

Will Marathon Have its Dedicated Servers?

Let's jump right in and state that yes, Marathon will indeed be having its own set of dedicated servers as stated in a recent behind-the-scenes interview with the developers at Bungie. It seems clear that because this game is a PvP-only title with no single-player options, server integrity needed to be a massive focus.

As stated by Scott Taylor, General Manager at Bungie during this interview: "With Marathon, Bungie is very clearly focusing on PvP, and so from the ground up, the integrity of the experience has been critical. It was non-negotiable that Bungie was going to invest in dedicated servers for Marathon, disconnect recovery, and Fog of War. Without those elements, none of this matters."

With that said, it feels bittersweet for a lot of players since this was exactly what the fans of Destiny have been wanting for a long time. And to see it implemented in this new title has caused some players to be frustrated, as one Twitter user puts it: "So if they will do dedicated servers for Marathon with not Destiny? Smh".

Ultimately this can be due to a variety of factors, but it is most likely that since Marathon was developed from the ground up with dedicated servers in mind, it was easier on a technical level to implement. Whereas this may not be the case with already live platforms such as Destiny.

Either way, players can happily expect top-notch server performance and balancing thanks to this factor when Marathon finally releases on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. So we look forward to disclosing more details of this game with you as time goes on and we know more about the release of this upcoming sci-fi extraction shooter from Bungie.
