A new week has started in Marvel Snap, which means a new card has officially been added for players to obtain from the in-game Shop or Spotlight Caches. This time, another mutant, Cannonball, joins their X-Men allies that can move or destroy high-Power cards away from pivotal locations using Rocks.

Cannonball's abilities will be closely monitored as they are on par with Polaris, but is Cannonball worth getting this season? We'll explore what players must know about Cannonball, including its ability, how to get the card, and some of the best viable decks to play in Marvel Snap.

Marvel Snap Cannonball Card Abilities Explained

Sam Guthrie, better known as the mutant Cannonball, has arrived to Marvel Snap, bringing his highly explosive abilities to the game. As an active member of the New Mutants, which was assembled by past students of Professor Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, Cannonball was trained by Professor X inside the Danger Room, where he was able to properly manipulate his body's thermo-chemical energy, which he first learned of his mutant abilities while working in a coal mine that suffered a cave-in.

Much like his comic book abilities, he can use his thermo-chemical energy similarly to destroy an enemy Power card in-game. Cannonball is a five-cost, eight-Power card with an On Reveal ability to move the enemy's highest Power card away from its location, which, if he's unable to do so, he'll destroy the card with a Rock.

Players looking to enlist Cannonball on their team can acquire him from the Spotlight Cache, which Spotlight Keys can be obtained when progressing through the Collection Level. As a Series 5 card, it's also available to purchase from the in-game Shop for 6,000 Collector's Tokens for the week, but let's look at some of the best decks featuring Cannonball that players can try at release.

Best Marvel Snap Cannonball Decks: Cannonball Junk

Toxic and Junk decks are disruptive archetypes aiming to take power away from opponents' cards at locations. Despite these decks not being seen frequently in-game or within the meta, it has had a few great cards released, like Annihilus, Alioth, and Man-Thing, that have given these archetypes some love and support, and Cannonball could be factored into these decks as such.

This does see more aggressive gameplay adopted, and for this deck specifically, players will want to fill their opponents' boards to make Cannonball shine. The key cards in this deck are from Marvel Snap content creator DenHearthstone, who pairs Debrii and Absorbing Man to quickly load up locations with as many Rocks as possible to prevent some high-power cards from coming onto the board.

This can provide an ideal situation for Nebula to secure a lane, which Luke Cage can slot in to prevent them from being afflicted by Hazmat. Once Cannonball targets the opponent's high Power card, Alioth can be placed to clinch the game if the conditions are met.

Best Marvel Snap Cannonball Decks: Thanos Ball Control

The Thanos Control deck gets a slight refresh with the inclusion of Cannonball for players to try on day one. (Picture: Untapped.gg)

Since Cannonball happens to synergize with Alioth quite effectively, they could fair well within Thanos decks, which have been gaining much popularity since the Black Order season. Thanos alone is quite a powerful card to play and will make other cards feel more powerful once they're played, like Cull Obsidian and Mockingbird.

As Mockingbird will have its cost reduced by one for each card that didn't start from the deck, they'll be able to have the card and others like Hope Summers (for energy gain), Professor X (to lock down a location), and Vision to move next to the Prof. Likewise, Jeff the Baby Land Shark can also ensure lane priority on the locked-down location, and Psylocke is there for extra energy for Alioth.

If Professor X is played before Cannonball, it will make Cannonball easier to play as it will be focused on destroying an enemy card rather than moving it. It could also be the opposite if Cannonball is first played away from the location they wish to lock down with Professor X to help them win the lane.

Best Marvel Snap Cannonball Decks: Cannonball On The Move

Naturally, Cannonball's ability synergizes well with Move decks, which have been slightly revived following Kingpin's buff and Hope Summers' release to make Cannonball more viable to play. Pairing Cannonball with key cards to help players predict their opponent's next move is vital in ensuring victory.

This deck was created once again by DenHearthstone, who outlined the inspiration behind this must-try deck, merging Move with the popular Good Cards and placing Kingpin in the spotlight. The main priority is to lockdown Storm before moving them away from the lane and focus on building another lane around Shang-Chi.

Having a tech card like Zabu will ensure cards like Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel, Omega Red, and Jessica Jones are more viable. Jessica Jones will support Storm while Ms. Marvel and Omega Red buff adjacent lanes. To guarantee them a win, Cannonball can either move or destroy the highest Power card at its location, and Magneto can bring them to their Kingpin location.
