The fighting games community has been looking to clean up its act in 2020 introducing with tournament organizers introducing strict policies against harassment, racism, and sexism, something long overdue for the scene.

Recently, Ryan "FilipinoChamp" Ramirez was barred from any Capcom-partnered events after a Black Lives Matters joke. Before that, both Dalauan "LowTierGod" Sparrow and Christina "CeroBlast" Tran were handed bans from EVO and Capcom tournaments after making transphobic and racial statements while streaming and on Twitter.

Now, Evil Geniuses decided to part ways with Christopher "NYChrisG" Gonzalez after comments surfaced made in an argument on Facebook were deemed to be racist.

The organisation bluntly tweeted out: "Chris ‘NYChrisG’ Gonzalez has been released and is no longer a member of Evil Geniuses."

A follow-up comment was made, confirming the reason for Chris' release was a series of derogatory claims he made in 2017, targeting female players, particularly Asian and black gamers.

"We at EG value each member of our community, and have zero tolerance for harassment. After investigation, it was evident that Chris’ statements, though made in 2017, continue to have real, harmful impact in our community."

The comments in question were part of an argument the EVO 2016 winner was having on Facebook, leading up to the conclusion that according to him "black female gamers suck. They are literally 99% talk."

The 29-year-old hasn't stayed silent since Evil Geniuses decided to drop him, with the player claiming that the org was throwing him "under the bus".

ChrisG signed with Evil Geniuses at the start of 2017, before the comments were made, and didn't receive any sort of punishment up until this point.

"EG really throwing (sic) me under the bus like that, AFTER EVERYTHING! They knew what I said, and that I regretted it. I told them day 1 when I posted it that I really messed up. And they told me that they would help me get through it all. THEY FORCED ME TO MOVE TO SEATTLE."

ChrisG claimed he insisted multiple times if there was any possibility of him getting cut from the org, feeling reassured once the higher-ups told him he was "part of the family."

“I was told multiple times that EG was happy with how I was doing. I was told multiple times when I asked them if I was gonna get dropped for the things that I've done. I KNOW WHAT I DID, AND I'VE BEEN SORRY SINCE DAY 1. They said NO, I was family, and that I wasn't going anywhere.”

Becoming a free agent effective immediately, only time will tell if Chris will find a new team to compete once the COVID-19 pandemic slows down.
