Marvel’s Avengers Players Criticize Dev Over Paid DLC Launch

Hours after launching a paid DLC for Marvel’s Avengers, Crystal Dynamics announced it will “sunset” the game, enraging players online.
Marvel’s Avengers Players Criticize Dev Over Paid DLC Launch

Following reports of potentially shutting down Marvel's Avengers after two and half years surfaced online, developer Crystal Dynamics sealed the game's fate with the preverbal "nail in the coffin." Announcing this latest development on their blog post dated 20th January 2023, the developer will end support for the game and eventually delist it from all gaming storefronts and marketplaces.

But this was the fuel needed to continue stoking the flames as the dedicated Avengers player base hit back at the developer for a specific detail mentioned in their blog post. This was brought to light by a Twitter user who made this revelation, adding more negative attention aimed at the developer.

It's been a difficult few years for the development team behind Marvel's Avengers, which will culminate in the game nearing the end of the road. After reports suggested that Crystal Dynamics have been considering ending support for the game for months, the decision to bid farewell came at a rather poorly timed moment.

A day before the delisting announcement, they launched a paid DLC, MCU Outfit Pack, for the superhero game. According to its listings via the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store, the paid DLC cost $74.99 / £61.99 (PS) / £60,74 (Xbox), and a day later, the developer announced all cosmetic items would be available for free.

This news was discovered by Twitter user, VinderTomat, who uploaded screenshots of the paid DLC available from the PlayStation Store, which infuriated many players. Some have called it a "scam" and "criminal," while others questioned players who bought the in-game cosmetics.

Despite this recent revelation, these cosmetics will only become free to all players around March 2023. Unfortunately, this means that most players will wait for the cosmetics to be free, making the launch of the DLC nonsensical and worthless.
