Millions of people globally logged into Disney+ on 9th November 2023 to watch the conclusion of Loki Season 2, which has received critical praise across its episodes. As the fate of the TVA rests in the hands of Loki along with Mobius, Casey, Hunter B-15, Victor Timely, and Sylvie, it was surprising for some to learn that the episode ended without a post-credit scene.

Nevertheless, as this time-traveling arc has now concluded, we anticipate what’s next for Loki, Sylvie, and their compatriots. As there has been no confirmed information as of writing, we’ve discussed what the future holds, including the possibility of a third season of Loki.

Will Loki Return For A Season 3?

On the back of an epic season finale for Loki Season 2 that is truly of glorious purpose, the episode became the third MCU project (films, series, and Special Presentations) not to feature a post-credit scene. While this may cause some panic within the fanbase that the newly crowned God of Stories won't be seen in an upcoming project, likely until Avengers: Kang Dynasty, many wondered if there will be a third season for the Asgardian god.

Discussing the possibility of Marvel Studios ordering a third season, executive producer Kevin Wright explained this in an interview with Collider in October 2023. On the subject of what's next for the God of Stories as the events of the MCU move closer to the next Avengers film, Wright provided an enlightened response on Season 3, revealing the approach for Season 2 was similar to Season 1.

I would say Season 1 and Season 2 were developed and created as, like, kind of two chapters of the same book. We felt pretty strongly, all of us involved, that Season 2 was about closing that book but that there are many other books on the shelf for this character and for this world. But this felt like it wanted to be the conclusion of these great things that we set up in Season 1. We don't want to constantly leave people with drastic cliffhangers for our finales.

After reading Wright's comments and watching Loki Season 2 Episode 6, the writers had written the season intending to conclude every character's story and tie up the overall narrative. And given that the episode did not feature a post-credit scene, it does leave the window open to Loki continuing his story in a follow-up, which corroborated recent reporting of Marvel Studios' new creative direction of doing multi-season content.

Nevertheless, while Marvel Studios has yet to confirm that a third season is in the future for the God of Stories, for now, we'll take this nugget of information with a grain of salt. However, with Avengers: Kang Dynasty currently slated for a 2026 release, it makes sense for a third season to occur prior to the next Avengers film to continue the character development for Kang the Conqueror.

All Loki Season 1 and 2 episodes are now available to stream on Disney+.
