Microsoft Might Have Revealed Marvel's Wolverine Release Date

Microsoft may have inadvertently revealed the release date of Insomniac Games' highly anticipated upcoming video game, Marvel's Wolverine.
Microsoft Might Have Revealed Marvel's Wolverine Release Date

Marvel's Wolverine is an upcoming PlayStation 5-exclusive video game developed by Insomniac Games. Since its surprise teaser trailer, unveiled in September 2021 at the PlayStation Showcase event, the game has triggered massive interest among die-hard Marvel fans.

However, despite the trailer's mostly positive reception online, Insomniac Games has been relatively quiet regarding the game's more intricate details. In particular, the trailer for Marvel's Wolverine did not divulge the game's storyline or gameplay, nor did it indicate its release date.

While this apparent lack of detail might lead fans to believe the game is in the early stages of development, a recent regulatory filing issued by Microsoft seems to suggest otherwise.

Microsoft CMA Document Suggests Marvel's Wolverine Will Release In 2023

As reported by Avinash Jaisrani for Tech4Gamers, Microsoft's response to the United Kingdom's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) regarding its proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard revealed that Marvel's Wolverine could release sometime next year (i.e., in 2023).

Accordingly, the CMA document (available to the public here) read, "PlayStation also has a spate of first- and third-party exclusive titles lined up for launch in 2023, including Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, Horizon [presumably, Horizon Call of the Mountain], Final Fantasy XVI, and Forspoken."

This statement came after Microsoft disapproved of the CMA's earlier concerns, citing that the CMA's potential harms to competitors were "misplaced." Instead, Microsoft claims that its proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard would give people "more choices for how to play games" and developers "more choices for how to reach those people."

Marvel's Wolverine is arguably the most anticipated Marvel video game yet, so it should be no surprise that fans are getting excited by this news.

Still, it's worth noting that this latest regulatory filing isn't enough to confirm that Marvel's Wolverine will indeed release in 2023. Insomniac Games has not issued a formal response or confirmed this information; therefore, it's probably best that fans take this information with a grain of salt.

We will endeavor to update you regarding any further information.
