This title could imply several things: It could be a fresh reboot for the series with none of the previous lore or continuity tied to the series. More likely though is that this is a time-travel adventure since Mortal Kombat has a lot of experience with using time travel to change reality or remove story elements that the creators don't want to work with anymore.
