Toy Story movie fans of all ages will be delighted to hear about the release of Lightyear, a film by Disney and Pixar following the origins of Buzz Lightyear prior to the Toy Story films. The film is sure to be popular, and lots of fans are wondering about Lightyear's release date and cast.

Lightyear has also spawned some controversy in some countries that lots of users are talking about.

Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming Lightyear film. 

Lightyear - Release date

Lightyear is set to release in theaters in the United States on 17th June 2022.

The film will be available in RealD 3D, 4DX, Dolby Cinema, and IMAX formats in theaters all around the country.

Lightyear's cast likely features some familiar voices. 

Chris Evans provides the voice for Buzz Lightyear in Lightyear. Evans has not voiced Buzz Lightyear in any of the previous Toy Story movies. 

The other major characters in the film will be voiced by the following actors. 

  • Keke Palmer as Izzy Hawthorne
  • Peter Sohn as Sox
  • James Brolin as Emperor Zurg
  • Taika Waititi as Mo Morrison
  • Dale Soules as Darby Steel

The movie also has some notable faces behind the scenes. It was directed by Finding Dory co-director Angus MacLane and produced by Galyn Susman, who also produced the iconic movie Ratatouille. MacLane has previously helped produce Toy Story TV specials and shorts.

Lightyear has spawned some controversy in some countries because of Disney and Pixar's decision to include a same-sex lesbian kiss in the animated movie. 

In fact, the movie was banned in 14 different countries, according to the United Arab Emirates' Media Regulatory Office, because of "“violation of the country’s media content standards.”

The United Arab Emirates criminalizes LGBT people and gay relationships.
