With the release of the New World Rise of the Angry Earth expansion, a new weapon named Flail was introduced. It is a one-handed weapon that you can equip with an offhand shield, just like Sword and Shield.

It uses arcane magic to enhance attacks and buff allies or debuff enemies. It is thus a highly suitable weapon for tank role in New World. If you want to get the most out of Flail, here is its best build so that you can spend your time leveling up the correct items, including attributes, gear, and more.

In our best New World DPS build, we would recommend you to take your Strength to at least 100 and Focus to at least 300. Apart from this, we would recommend you to spend the rest of the points leveling up Constitution, which will give you extra HP to survive attacks. Apart from this, use light category gear in order to get extra buffs.

Weapon and Weapon Mastery

The first weapon that you will pick is Flail, and you can have a look at the weapon masteries that you should have below:

  • Cleric
    • Arcane Smite: Leap forward and strike the ground with arcane force dealing 130% weapon damage to all targets within 2.7m of the impact. Leave behind a hazardous area at the impact point that inflicts a stack of Impairment for 6s to all targets that enter. Impairment deals 10% weapon damage per second and inflicts weaken, reducing their base damage by 10%. This ability has grit.
    • Epic Flail: Smite hits reduce its own cooldown by 5% per target hit. (Max 5 targets)
    • Ironclad Superiority: Grants a bonus based on what shield type is equipped:
      • Round Shield - Smite deals 20% more base weapon damage.
      • Kite Shield - Smite will now stagger targets hit, but damage is reduced to 90% weapon damage.
      • Tower Shield - Gain 30% fortfy for 6s when smite is activated.
    • Deflecting Frailty: You have an active buff that weakens targets that hit you.
    • Arcane Vortex: Swirl the flail above the player's head dealing 4 rapid hits of 85% weapon damage in a 3m radius around the player. After the first spin is completed, trigger a 3m blast of energy granting 10% empower for 5s to all allies inside the radius. This ability has grit. 
    • Accelerated Advantage: Hitting the target with Arcane Vortex grants a stacking haste on self, increasing movement speed by 7% for 7 seconds. Allies within the radius of the stack are granted a 25% haste for 5 seconds.
    • Flailing Stability: All allies within 3m of player during the arcane vortex are cleansed of crowd control status effects and are immune to them for 2 seconds. All allies inside are also healed for 65% weapon damage.
    • Arcane Eruption: All allies within 3m of player during the arcane vortex are cleansed of crowd control status effects and are immune to them for 2 seconds. All allies inside are also healed for 65% weapon damage.
    • Crippling Strike: Targets hit with the first attack of burst are slowed, reducing their movement speed by 40% for 3s.    
    • Debilitating Extension: The follow up attack extends the duration of all debilitate status effects on the target by 30%.    
    • Supportive Blessing: The follow up attack consumes one stack of Impairment on the target hit, triggering a chain that will bounce up to 4 times to allies within 6m of player, granting 130% of its total damage as health to each ally it chains to, and 80% of its total damage to self.
  • Bastion
    • Vital Suppressant: While at or above 50% health, reduce damage taken by 4%. While below 50% health, reduce the attackers stamina damage dealt while blocking by 10%.    
    • Reductive Superiority: Grants status effect duration modifications on self based on what shield type is equipped:
      • Round Shield - Increased duration of all limited duration buffs on player by 10%
      • Kite Shield - Decrease duration of damage over time and debilitating effects on player by 10%
      • Tower Shield - Decrease duration of crowd control effects on player by 10%
    • Flail Mary: While stamina is at or below 30%, activating an ability will grant 15 stamina. 

The second recommended weapon would be the Life Staff, and here are the weapon masteries that you should unlock:

  • Healing
    • Absolved: Life Staff's heavy attacks no longer consume mana.    
    • Sacred Ground: Create an area on the ground with a 3m radius that lasts for 12s. Allies in the area are healed for 16% weapon damage every second. Costs 15 Mana.    
    • Holy Ground: Regenerate stamina 25% faster and mana 50% faster while in Sacred Ground.    
    • Anointed: While allies are in Sacred Ground, they are healed for 50% more from all incoming healing.    
    • Blissful Touch: Light attacks now heal for 16% weapon damage when passing through an ally.    
    • Desperate Speed: When you heal an ally below 50% health, Life Staff ability cooldowns are reduced by 10%.
    • Revitalize: When you hit with a light attack, reduce Life Staff ability cooldowns by 5%.    
  • Protector
    • Orb of Protection: Shoot out a light projectile that grants 20% fortify for 10s, heals an ally for 8% of weapon damage, and deals 146% weapon damage when it hits an enemy.
    • Protector's Blessing: If Orb of Protection hits an ally, they gain recovery and are healed for 6% weapon damage every second for 10s.    
    • Shared Protection: If you successfully heal an ally with Orb of Protection, you also gain fortify and recovery.    
    • Bend Light: After a dodge, your outgoing healing is 20% more effective for 5s.    
    • Protector's Strength: If you have a buff, all outgoing healing is increased by 20%.
    • Beacon: Shoot out a light projectile that deals 146% weapon damage to enemies, attaches to its target and heals all allies in a 3m radius for 16% weapon damage each second for 10s. Costs 16 Mana.    
    • Infused Light: Beacon's area of effect radius is increased to 4.5m.    
    • Radiance's Blessing: Beacon lasts 5s longer. 

If you still have Mastery Points left, you can use them as you like.

Perks

  • Mending Vortex: Every 2 hits with Vortex will heal you for 25% of the base weapon damage.
  • Crowded Bludgeon: If 2 or more targets are hit with warding bludgeon, even if the hits are blocked, reduce its cooldown by 15%.

Gems

  • Cut Pristine Diamond:
    • Rally IV: +15% damage and outgoing healing while at full Health.
    • Wilderness Ward IV: 1.9% Physical and +0.63% Elemental Damage Absorption
  • Runeglass of Abyssal Moonlight:
    • Abyssal Exhilarate: +20% damage while your Health is below 30%. Hits inflict Corrosion, dealing 8% Void damage per second for 2s.
    • Abyssal Slash Ward: +4% Slash Damage Absorption. Your Void attacks deal +2% damage.

While this is our favorite New World Flail build, you can make changes to them based on the items available to you along with your level. Apart from this, we recommend you to go with the playstyle that you are comfortable with for the best results.
