With the launch of Overwatch 2 and its Season 1 content as a free-to-play experience and the original shutting down, there's a lot of hype surrounding Blizzard's latest title. Some fans, therefore, might be wondering if the Overwatch 2 servers are currently down or if they can jump in and play some matches on PC or consoles.

This article explains if the Overwatch 2 servers are currently down or operational and how you can check if others are running into connection issues.

Updated on 5th October 2022 with the latest status details, including two DDOS attacks in the first 24 hours of launch.

Are Overwatch 2 Servers Down?

First up, it is essential to note that the original Overwatch servers went down for the final time at roughly 09:00 PDT on 3rd October 2022.

Following the shutdown of these servers, Overwatch 2 launched on 4th October 2022, at approximately noon PDT time.

Unfortunately, players continue to experience connection issues and long queue times. This is partly due to two DDOS attacks in the first 24 hours of launch.

At the time of writing, the Overwatch 2 servers are operational but unstable.

Remember, with a massive free-to-play launch, unexpected server outages or downtime for maintenance might occur at a moment's notice.

How To Check Overwatch 2 Server Status

Before you go all IT Crowd on your gaming device or router if you experience Overwatch 2 connection issues, you might want to find out how you can check the game's server status.

First up, the official Overwatch 2 forum has an announcement section where the developers update players. There's also the Battle.net support page which shows when maintenance occurs for multiple titles or if there are any issues, as per the image above.

Gamers can also check the official Overwatch Twitter account for any possible announcements of unexpected server downtime or outages. 

Lastly, you can use the third-party DownDetector page for Overwatch to see if users are experiencing connection issues. You can also report your issues via this page.

If the servers are not down for maintenance or an unexpected outage, but you can't connect to Overwatch 2, we suggest contacting Blizzard's customer service for your region.
