PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds, otherwise known as PUBG, took the PC world by storm when it was initially released in 2017. It wasn’t the first Battle Royale game, but it may very well be the one that caused an entire shift in the games industry.
To this day, PUBG still offers a unique feel to the Battle Royale genre, despite the bare-bones approach to the game overall. The pace of each match is far slower, and movement is more heavy compared to the most popular games in the genre today.
With the game available on mobile platforms, there is still a massive player base for the game, and updates over time have made the Battle Royale relatively fresh.
Since the game was in Early Access on PC, PUBG has come a long way in terms of the platforms available. The game can be played on nearly every platform, including old and newer generation consoles. Players who are exclusively on the Nintendo Switch are unfortunately left out in this case, but even a phone is enough.
In the latter half of the PUBG lifecycle, the game became free-to-play, so access to play is incredibly easy. The game used to require purchase, even if the price was half that of a full game. With PUBG becoming free to play, downloading has never been easier.
Step one to playing PUBG is going to depend entirely on the platform that you have chosen to play on. If you are playing on consoles such as the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox One, for example, then you’ll need to open up the store page for the respective console.
On PC, the main platform to download PUBG is on Steam. The success of the game started there, and it continues to be available. Though there are other PC platforms like Epic Games, PC players need to use Steam in this case.
As for Mobile, both iOS and Android users have their own versions that can be downloaded on their respective storefronts. However, the Mobile version is different than the version the console and Steam users play. Even on mobile devices, players have the option between the standard mobile version or New State. The latter is developed by the PUBG studio and is essentially an upgraded version.
PUBG Mobile can be played on PC through the use of an emulator, which also works for games like COD Mobile. These allow PC players to jump into a separate version on their respective hardware. Console players, on the other hand, will not be able to try this.
Console and Mobile gamers won’t need to worry about the System Requirements when downloading PUBG. On those platforms, as long as there is space for the download, the performance should be optimized to the given device. On Steam, that’s a different story, and the System Requirements can dictate how well your own PC can handle the game.

Before you download the Battle Royale, it’s important to at least meet the minimum requirements. Otherwise, the game will certainly struggle to perform, and gameplay will be hindered.
While both versions carry the same name, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is different on console and PC when compared to Mobile. It’s not just graphics alone either, but the mechanics of the game entirely.
Overall, PUBG Mobile would be considered the easier version of the two games. Most weapons on mobile shooter games will have stronger aim assist and firing patterns that are far easier to control. It makes the barrier to entry far lower, which makes sense for such a large audience.
On PC and console versions, the recoil of the guns is far less forgiving, and there is no aim assist at all on PC. Players will have to deal with far more obstacles, but if enough practice is put in, there is far more control to a mouse and keyboard.
PUBG Mobile has been known to have bots as well though, and it makes the average match much less dangerous than the counterpart version. With that said, the controls can feel far more clunky on a mobile device. Controls are based on joysticks, but of course, that’s hard to transfer to a touch screen.
As mentioned earlier, though, there are emulators for PUBG Mobile on PC. In those cases, the game is far easier, especially with a keyboard and mouse to utilize as well.
Battle Royales have had a very mixed reputation when it comes to building an esports component to a given game. Fortnite, for example has certainly fallen from what it once was. Warzone has a similar situation, though both games do have professional teams that compete in tournaments.
In comparison to the rest of the genre, PUBG has held up fairly well in terms of a thriving esports scene. There is an entire organization set up for PUBG mobile Esports that encompasses many different countries around the globe.
Every team can earn points throughout the season that is counted up on a ladder. This ladder leads up to the PUBG Global Championship as a sendoff to the season. Beyond labeling teams with their country of origin, there are plenty of esports organizations that participate as well.
Just a few of the names in PUBG esports includes eUnited, FaZe Clan, and Team Liquid. There used to be more teams involved, but considering the length of most Battle Royale leagues, PUBG has done well in retaining a competitive base.
