Pokémon GO Ditto Disguises (February 2023) – How To Find & Catch The Transform Pokémon

Everyone's favorite gelatinous Pokémon, Ditto, plays a vital role in almost every game it appears in, and Pokémon GO is no exception. Despite this, finding this Pokémon can be a little trickier in this game, unlike the mainline games where Ditto can be regularly found in the wild.

For Pokémon GO, Ditto will adopt a disguise based on various Pokémon; the list of Pokémon that Ditto could be disguised is constantly changing. If you wish to catch a Ditto, we've listed all the Pokémon you should look for in Pokémon GO.

2nd February 2023 Update: We've checked for the latest Ditto disguises in Pokémon GO and have found no updates on current disguises. We'll endeavor to provide more updates once more reliable information is available.

Ditto is known to transform into any Pokémon according to its Pokédex entry; this doesn't apply to Pokémon GO. On a monthly rotation, the Normal-type Pokémon will transform into specific Pokémon; however, Ditto could potentially disguise as Bidoof, Numel, and Spinarak, but there were reports that it may not be the case.

As the roster of Ditto Disguises supposedly changes every month, there hasn't been much change to the rotation, according to Pokémon source Leek Duck. Below we've detailed all the Pokémon that Ditto can currently be disguised as:

  • Dwebble
  • Ekans
  • Finneon
  • Gastly
  • Lillipup
  • Natu
  • Surskit

Unfortunately, there is no way of discerning whether or not any of these Pokémon on the minimap could potentially be Ditto. The only way to find one is to catch as many of these listed Pokémon as you can and pray that one happens to be a Ditto in disguise.

How To Catch A Ditto Disguise In Pokémon GO?

As for the potential of encountering a Shiny Ditto, there is a catch to it, as you'll need to encounter any of the listed Pokémon in their Normal form. Unfortunately, this means that a Shiny Bidoof won't transform into a Shiny Ditto, so be on the lookout for any of the mentioned Normal-type Pokémon for them to transform into Ditto.

It was possible to obtain a guaranteed wild Shiny Ditto during the Pokémon GO: Kanto Tour event, and with the next GO Tour: Hoenn scheduled for February 2023, Trainers may be in luck for a wild Ditto to spawn. Alternatively, it could be included as a reward encounter or part of the event's Field or Special Research story, which we'll provide more details about once they've become available.

Aside from filling up the Pokédex, Ditto has tons of uses in Pokémon GO, where it's often used for breeding, just like the mainline games. Likewise, it could be tied to in-game quests (such as the "Let's GO, Meltan" mission), meaning catching one becomes a requirement to progress a milestone.

That being said, another way of determining if you are encountering a Ditto is if a Pokémon that's generally easy to catch suddenly gives you a challenge; chances are that it's a Ditto. Lastly, when attempting to catch the Pokémon, it will produce a different catch animation that will reveal itself as a Ditto.

That concludes our guide to Ditto Disguises, including the updated rotation for Pokémon GO. Don’t forget to look for any of the mentioned Normal form Pokémon for the chance to encounter a Shiny Ditto.
