Pokémon GO’s Valentine’s Day event is underway as Trainers get to share and spread the love through gift-giving and kind gestures. In addition, various Pokémon will be spawning during this event, and there are many new in-game-themed activities to participate in.
The Water-type heart-shaped Pokémon, Luvdisc, is appearing in this event as Niantic will be granting it its Limited Research Day to coincide with the Valentine’s Day event. Here’s everything about the Luvdisc Limited Research Day and the Field Research tasks available for Pokémon GO.

Pokémon GO Luvdisc Limited Research Day Field Research
As Luvdisc will be the featured Pokémon for this limited-time activity, Trainers could encounter its Shiny form in the wild. The Luvdisc Limited Research Day will take place on 11th February 2023 between 2 pm and 5 pm local time, during which time you’ll have to complete the Field Research tasks, which you can get by spinning the Photo Discs at PokéStops.
Additionally, by completing these tasks, you’ll earn Stamps which contribute to your progress in unlocking the Research Breakthrough received after seven Stamps are collected. We’ve detailed below the Field Research tasks for the Luvdisc Limited Research Day as provided by notable Pokémon source Leek Duck:
- Battle in a Gym: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Catch five Pokémon: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Earn Candy when exploring with your Buddy Pokémon: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Earn three Hearts with your Buddy Pokémon: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Make five Curveball Throws: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Make three consecutive Curveball Throws: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Make a Great Curveball Throw: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Make three Great Throws: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Make three consecutive Nice Throws: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Make three Nice Curveball Throws: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Power up three water-type Pokémon: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Spin two PokéStops or Gyms: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Use a Super Effective Charged Attack: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Use three Pinap Berries when catching Pokémon: Luvdisc Encounter*
- Use three Berries to assist with catching Pokémon: Luvdisc Encounter*
During the event, you’ll earn special encounters with Luvdisc as a reward; however, additional rewards could be added to each task when completed. Luvdisc is also a special reward encounter in the Valentine’s Day Field Research, which could also include a Shiny Luvdisc.
The Valentine’s Day event bonuses are likely applicable for the Luvdisc Limited Research Day, as you can earn double Stardust when unwrapping Gifts and Lure Modules are active for two hours during and after the event. Lastly, you can also encounter various Pokémon spawning often in the wild for the Luvdisc Limited Research Day with the chances of encountering them in their Shiny form*, which are the following:

- Formatis
- Lickitung*
- Lileep*
- Miltank*
- Slowpoke*
- Spritzee*
