When players usually think about the Pokémon Poliwhirl, they think of its evolution, Poliwrath, as well. This evolutionary line has been around since the beginning and players are quite fond of the Pokémon in the line.
It starts with Poliwag and can finish with two different Pokémon. The first is Poliwrath, which is the traditional third evolution. However, there’s also Politoed, which wasn’t introduced until Generation II.
Politoed, along with the entire Poliwag line, can be caught in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Although, Politoed’s evolution is a little different than Poliwrath’s, leaving players confused about how to complete the evolutionary line.
Catch Politoed in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
To begin, you’ll need to catch a Poliwhirl or Poliwag. Catching a Poliwhirl makes the process easier since you don’t need to evolve it any further but either Pokémon will do. You can catch both of the Water-types in the Grand Underground, with any of the water caves being able to spawn the Pokémon.
Once you have your Poliwhirl in your party, you’ll need to give it a King’s Rock. The King’s Rock can be found by catching wild Poliwhirl or by mining for them in the Grand Underground. Both methods are tedious, as neither holds a 100% chance to acquire the item.
Whichever way you use to find the King’s Rock, give it to Poliwhirl. You’ll then need to trade Poliwhirl while it’s holding the item. This will require a friend or a second Nintendo Switch to pull off. Once you’ve traded the Poiwhirl, it will evolve into Politoed.
That’s the entire process of getting Politoed in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
