Heatran is one of several Legendaries available in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

The list of Legendary Pokémon available to be caught in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is quite extensive and doesn’t stop with mons like Rayquaza. It extends to some lesser-known Legendaries, like the Fire and Steel-type Heatran.

Heatran was originally introduced with Generation IV and has been a popular Legendary ever since. While it has some notable weaknesses, having the Fire-type Sinnoh is always a bonus. However, players are somewhat stumped when trying to find Heatran in the remakes. This isn’t without reason, as Heatran has a lengthy process in order to be caught.

Players can find out how to catch the Legendary in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl below.

The first step that players will need to take is beating the main story and the Elite Four. Then, you’ll need to acquire the National Dex from Professor Rowan/Oak, which requires seeing all 151 Pokémon in the regional dex.

Once you have the National Dex, you can begin the hunt for Heatran by going to the Fight Area. This is a new area that opens up in the post-game. In the Fight Area, you need to travel north until you reach Route 225. Here, keep going northeast until you reach the Survival Area.

This town has your rival and Crasher Wake in it, both of whom you’ll need to talk to. After the cutscene with the two characters, you can head up to Route 226 until you see a mountain that can be scaled with Rock Climb. Use the HM and then head right immediately. Once you see two trainers, take a left and then use Rock Climb again.

You’ll then be faced with some water to use Surf on. You need to head past the house on the island and keep going until you reach land. Hop off the Bidoof and keep walking until you reach Route 227. Here, equip your Bike and use the ramps to reach the house. Go past the house to go up the stairs and use your Bike again to go across the beam. On the other side of the beam, you’ll talk to a character named Buck, who will guide you to a big cave known as Stark Mountain.

This is where Heatran is located. You’ll need to make your way through some Strength puzzles in the mountain until you reach Buck again. You’ll partner up with him to take on some double battles and eventually reach some stairs that lead to another cave. This will trigger a cutscene that sees Buck take the Magma Stone and flee. You also need to flee Stark Mountain and Fly back to the Survival Area.

Buck will be there waiting and tells you the Stark Mountain volcano is going to erupt due to him taking the Magma Stone. Now, you need to head all the way back to Stark Mountain again and head inside. However, you now have the Magma Stone in your possession. In the mountain, you can make your way through the area again and go back to the Magma Stone room. You should save before entering.
