How to find the Splash Plate in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

The Splash Plate can make your Water-type Pokémon even stronger in Sinnoh.

As with any other Pokémon game, Water-types are among the most plentiful in the region of Sinnoh. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have a number of solid Water Pokémon that players can use in their playthroughs, beginning with the starter Piplup and ending with the Legendary Pokémon Palkia. There’s also a free Manaphy that players can acquire if they play before 22nd February, 2022.

With so many Water-types in the game, players will want some items to help boost their power in battle. The Splash Plate is one of several plates in the Sinnoh remakes that players can use to do just that. Before they can give it to one of their Pokémon, though, players need to know where they can find it in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

The one requirement that you need in order to go searching for the Splash Plate is being able to use the HM for Surf outside of battle. This comes after you’ve defeated the Hearthome City Gym Leader Fantina and made your way to Celestic Town. Here, the town elder will give you the HM for Surf.

You don’t even need to teach it to one of your Pokémon, as HMs are automatically usable in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Once you have Surf, you need to Fly to Sandgem Town and immediately head to the southern beach of the town.

Past the beach, there will be some water that you can Surf on. Press A on the water and you’ll hop on a Bibarel to surf on the water with. Go south on the water until you find two woman swimmers going back and forth in the water. Make your way past them until you find an island with two beaches. One of these beaches will have a Poké Ball sitting on it, which contains the Splash Plate.

Giving this item to a Pokémon improves their Water-type moves by 50%. That’s a ton of extra power, especially if the Pokémon holding the item is a Water-type themselves.
