After two official online tournaments, the Pokémon Players Cup will return for a third round in January next year.
Pokémon Players Cup 3 announced for January 2021

The Pokémon Players Cup will return for a third round across Sword and Shield, the trading card game and Pokken Tournament DX.

Taking place starting January 2021 and concluding in April, the Pokémon Players Cup III will similarly see Master Division players compete in online tournaments for prizes and bragging rights.

While the second Pokémon Players Cup only featured VGC and TCG tournaments, this third outing marks the return of Pokken Tournament DX.

Each tournament will have qualifying events taking place prior. To participate, you need to a Pokémon Trainer Club account and have a Player ID by 18th January at 10am PST/6pm GMT. TCG players will need to log-in to Pokémon TCG Online with a Player ID attached to their PTC account between 18th October to 18th January to take part.

For Sword and Shield, players will need to advance from the Pokémon Players Cup 3 qualifiers to the region qualifiers, set to take place in March. You can check out full details of the event here

Pokémon TCG players will compete in tournaments across a qualifying period, while Pokken Tournament DX will stage region-specific qualifiers.

It’s a promising sign The Pokémon Company will continue to push the Pokémon Players Cup for the near future, after it was largely put in place as a replacement for in-person events.

The last Pokémon Players Cup saw US player Wolfe Glick take the top prize for Sword and Shield, following an impressive run through the losers bracket.
