The Pokémon Company announced the upcoming World Championships will be heading to the Alola State of Hawai'i this August. With early event details been released following the announcement, as one core aspect of the annual competitive event is how players can enter the tournament.

Players looking to guarantee their spot at Worlds 2024 must earn enough Championship Points when competing in Championship Series events to qualify for the tournament. This guide explains what Championship Points are and how players can qualify for the Pokémon World Championships.

What Are Championship Points For The Pokémon World Championships?

According to the official Pokémon overview page, players earn Championship Points when competing in Championship Series events based on their placement within their age division. Those who are placed first in their division will earn the maximum Championship Points, while players placed below can earn these points depending on their attendance at a Championship Series event and their age division meets specific requirements.

Those who've earned points based on attendance at a Championship Series event are known as the Kicker. They can only attain this if they meet the Kicker threshold, for which the points will be given to more players; for example, if a division features a minimum of eight players, players placed 3rd and 4th will get Championship Points.

In addition, every Championship Series event has what is known as the Best Finish Limit, which ensures that the event series provides "a more even playing field" to accommodate the players competing globally. Should players participate in more events for the series and surpass the Best Finish Limit cap, the best and top performances will be "registered."

They will also earn Play! Points are required to play any Pokémon game, and they must also register for the Play! Pokémon program.

For the Pokémon World Championships 2024, The Pokémon Company has adjusted the Champion Points requirements across its featured games, geographical rating zone, and divisions. The biggest bump impacted Pokémon TCG, as requirements have been bumped up from 350 to 600 Championship Points for the 2024 season, which has caused some raucous amongst the Pokémon TG community.
