Will Redfall Require Online Connection For Single-Player?

Arkane and Bethesda's open-world FPS action title, Redfall, where players will defend the town of Redfall against a legion of vampires, releases on PC and Xbox Series X/S on 2 May 2023. Players will be able to squad up in co-op, or play the game alone, which begs the question: "Does Redfall require an online connection for single-player?".

This article explains if Redfall does require a persistent online connection for someone who wishes to play alone and some good news about Xbox Gold subscription requirements for those on Xbox Series X/S.

Update on 2 May 2023: We've updated this article with the latest Redfall online connection requirement details.

While Redfall is best experienced as part of a co-op team, you can play the game single-player on Xbox Series X/S and PC. Despite the ability to play alone, the developers have confirmed that Redfall requires a persistent online connection to play.

This news comes via an official FAQ about Redfall, where the developers clearly state that:

A persistent online connection is required for single player and co-op.

While this isn't really a big shock for most, some people might just want to play Redfall alone and might not have the most stable of internet connections. There is, however, some good news about the Xbox Gold subscription requirement for Redfall.

Does Redfall Require Xbox Gold Subscription for MP?

The good news is that if you play Redfall single-player, an Xbox Gold subscription is not required. It is only required for co-op play.

With that being said, you do need to link your Bethesda account to Steam or Xbox, depending on your platform. Furthermore, since the game is a Day One release on Xbox Game Pass (which has a Gold subscription baked in), you can play it for free and enjoy co-op if you are a subscriber.

That's probably the best way to go with Redfall anyway, but just to be clear, Redfall only requires Xbox Gold for console players in co-op mode.

In case you missed it, check out the Redfall gameplay deep dive video below, where the developers mention you can play the game alone if you so choose.

We will endeavor to update this article if anything changes with regard to Redfall's persistent online connection requirement for single-player.
