Resident Evil 4: How To Defeat El Gigante Troll In The Quarry

Resident Evil 4 is a challenging game with plenty of nail-biting encounters that will leave your hands sweaty and your heart racing. The most brutal of these challenges are the boss battles.

The gigantic El Gigante troll in the quarry is the first major boss in Resident Evil 4. Whether you're a new player or a veteran attempting this encounter at higher difficulty levels, here are a few tips to help you beat this zombie troll.

The first thing to notice is how big the boss arena is compared to most other enemy encounters in the game. It's your cue to stay as far as possible from the troll because otherwise, you will get in the way of its hard-hitting arms. 

The troll has these swinging attacks that do massive damage, so it's best to stay out of its way. El Gigante has a weak point. It's the tentacle head spawning out of its back. Target this tentacle to make this fight a lot easier. 

It's best to use weapons that deal bonus damage to weak points. Something like the bolt-action rifle is a great choice. Once you have dealt enough damage to the grotesque tentacle, the troll will get stunned and fall down. This is your opportunity to climb on its back and target the tentacle with your knife. Alternatively, you can use firearm damage, a shotgun preferably. 

Halfway through the battle, the dog you rescued earlier will show up to distract the troll. Sadly, it's not much of a help, as the troll will still primarily target you. Occasionally, it will also charge toward you, so it's best to keep moving. In the final moments, the troll also makes this jumping attack, which you can dodge by pressing O/B when the "evade" prompt shows up on the screen.
