Stardew Valley: How To Get Hay

Hay is a useful resource in Stardew Valley, so here's how to get your hands on it.
Stardew Valley: How To Get Hay

You can use Hay in Stardew Valley to feed your livestock, but it can be a challenging resource to find at times, especially if you're just starting out. While most players know that you can buy Hay, this can easily become very expensive, so it's important to find a better way to reliably farm this resource on your farm.

While Stardew Valley doesn't make it obvious how to get Hay, it's not hard to get tons of this useful resource if you understand how to farm it. In this guide, we'll explain how to get your hands on some Hay in Stardew Valley to feed your livestock.

There are two different methods of getting Hay in Stardew Valley. Through building a Silo, you can get tons of Hay on your own farm. But there's another way you can get it, too: buying it directly from the townspeople.

Let's take a deeper look at the two main methods of getting Hay in Stardew Valley, how to reliably get Hay, and which of the two methods we have provided is the best.

Build A Silo

The main method of getting Hay in Stardew Valley is to build a Silo. Like all other buildings in Stardew Valley, Silos take two days to construct. You'll need to talk to Robin to build a Silo, just like all other farm buildings in the game.

Here's what you'll need to construct a Silo: `

  • 100 G
  • 100 Stone
  • 10 Clay
  • 5 Copper Bars

Once you build a Silo, you can use the scythe to tear down any grass on your farm. At that point, the grass will be turned into Hay and will instantly appear in the Silo; you won't need to move it there on your own.

To gather up your Hay, you need to go to the Silo and obtain it. Next, you can place the Hay in your animals' feed containers.

Buy Hay From Marnie

Alternatively, if you don't want to farm your own Hay using a Silo, you can buy some from Marnie for 50 G. This can easily get very expensive over time, though, so it's a better idea to set up your Silo and get your Hay farm going as soon as you can so you'll be able to feed your livestock without sinking a ton of money into their feed.

Now you know how to get Hay in Stardew Valley. While it can be hard to find this resource early on, it's easy once you build your first Silo with the help of Robin's construction skills.
