Despite there being a dedicated Starfield Controller, there seems to be an issue with it not working on Steam.

The time has come and Starfield has officially launched to the public. Things are just starting out for those who have early access, but there are a lot of players jumping into the action right now. Starfield was one of the most anticipated games for 2023, created by the developers behind Skyrim and Fallout.

Now that the game is out, reviewers have given their opinion and are overall pretty satisfied with it. But despite the positive reviews, there are some problems that players are currently facing. One of the biggest issues is that the Starfield Controller does not work when playing Starfield on PC via Steam.

Starfield Controller Is Having Issues On Steam

This issue is only occurring for players who are playing Starfield on Steam. It seems that the Starfield controller has no issue working on Xbox consoles, which makes sense as it is an Xbox controller. But even though Xbox controllers are a common favorite for PC players, the Starfield controller is causing problems. Even stranger, the Starfield controller will seemingly work on any other Steam game except Starfield.

This is not just a Starfield controller issue. There have been complaints about other controllers not working on Starfield at all, even though they work on other games on Steam. Generally, there is a clear controller issue on the Steam version of Starfield.

How To Fix The Starfield Controller Issue On Steam

There is a possible solution that could help get the Starfield controller to work on the Steam version of the game. The first thing you need to do is right-click Starfield on Steam. Then head to the controller tab and hit Override Starfield. Finally, you will be able to hit Disable Steam input and the Starfield controller should now work.

This should also fix the problem for other controllers you might want to use while playing Starfield. However, this is not a guaranteed fix. There are still some people who claim this doesn't fix the issue, but it might work for some. The real solution is Bethesda creating a patch to fix the problem, but that could end up taking some time.
