American television network HBO released two official images announcing that Season 2 of the critically successful series The Last of Us is in production. The series has been in production for some time, reportedly in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, as new set images began circulating online, including on social media.
Like the first season, which was adapted from the first game, it's unclear how much of The Last of Us Part 2 will be adapted for the second season. HBO also confirmed on social media that The Last of Us Season 2 will arrive sometime in 2025.
Alongside announcing The Last of Us's return to television screens in 2025, they shared two official images featuring Pedro Pascal's Joel Miller and Bella Ramsey's Ellie. However, over the past few weeks, new set production images of the recreated locations for the show have been appearing online, and finally, a first look at Isabela Merced's Dina pictured together with Ramsey on set.
So far, eagle-eyed fans have spotted familiar locations from the game recreated, giving them an idea of what will be adapted for the second season, including a pharmacy store, as shared by one user on Twitter. Additionally, Ellie's personal horse, Shimmer, which appeared back in Season 1, was seen on set courtesy of additional images posted by Redditor miss sarah.
As for the show's production, it's unclear how much of The Last of Us Part 2 will be adapted for the second season; however, showrunner Craig Mazin has alluded to what will be seen in Season 2. In a red carpet interview with IGN last year, Mazin stated TLOU Part 2 has "more than a season's worth of television, for sure" but also added that it has "a much bigger story, and it's a more complicated story."
