Polish studio CD Projekt RED has officially confirmed the release date for the much-anticipated mod editor for their acclaimed RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The news was announced in an official news report, in which the developer provided additional information regarding support for the mod editor.

According to the developer, The Witcher 3 REDkit will be "based on the game's engine," so interested players and modders can still sign up for the ongoing Playtest. This modding tool can be accessed for playtesting via the mod's official Steam listing.

CD Projekt RED announced in November 2023 that the development team is working on an official modding tool for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. At the time, the team was looking at a 2024 release, which was confirmed on 7th May 2024 in an official news report.

The Polish studio confirmed that The Witcher 3 REDkit will launch for free on 21st May 2024 for PC via Epic Games Store, GOG.com, and Steam. Interested parties who wish to gain insight into the upcoming mod editor can sign up for the Playtest available via Steam, which will likely be available until its launch.

This editor is a reworked version of the REDengine 3 editor that we used to create the game — it will allow you to create your own experiences in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by making something completely new or editing existing quests and content.

As for the requirements for the upcoming mod editor, players must own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for PC as it needs the "game files in order to work properly, so make sure you have it installed too!" While the Playtest is only available via Steam, it "will work on game files regardless whether you bought it on Steam or not."
