A Plague Tale: Requiem - Release date, trailer, story, gameplay features, news, more

Among many other great surprises, A Plague Tale: Requiem has been announced during the Xbox E3 2021 showcase.

A sequel to Plague Tale: Innocence, the game which was highly praised for its grim and distressing story, which perfectly captured some of the darkest hours of history through the eyes of young and seemingly helpless siblings trying to survive the impossible ordeal while saving their innocence and childhood.

Developed by Asobo Studio, A Plague Tale: Requiem will have players going on a new arduous journey with Amicia and her brother Hugo through the world devastated by the plague and hardship of the Middle Ages.

Let's see what we know about the game.

A Plague Tale: Requiem trailer and gameplay

You can see the E3 2021 reveal trailer above, but when it comes to gameplay, there are currently no details of what can we expect.

It is reasonable to assume that the game will build upon the gameplay loop of the first game, with a slew of new mechanics and features unique to the sequel.

Not much has been revealed for now about the story of the game except for what we know from the trailer and the fact that A Plague Tale: Requiem is the direct sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence.

Amicia and Hugo are going on a new dangerous quest, and just like in the first game, they will do whatever it takes to survive a brutal, uncaring world. Amicia will not think much before doing even the cruellest of things if that's what she needs to do in order to protect her brother.

In the trailer, we see the return of the game's signature waves of rats (literally), and while the biggest part of the trailer is focused on an alley in some medieval town, the scene suddenly switches from a gloomy town to a sunny meadow by the sea with Hugo watching us.

Another noticeable thing from the trailer is that both Hugo and Amicia now look slightly older, as expected, and much more experienced because of all the hardships they have faced through.

A Plague Tale: Requiem platforms

Focus Home Interactive confirmed that the game will be a fully next-gen title, which means it will not be released on the PS4 and Xbox One.

Interestingly enough, the game will also release on the Nintendo Switch, despite being a next-gen game. Is this a hint towards the rumoured Switch Pro?

Despite being revealed during the Xbox E3 2021 showcase, it has been confirmed that the game will release on PS5 on Day 1, there will be no console exclusivity for this game.

Asides from the Xbox Series X, Switch, and PS5, the game will also come to PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Finally, if you love Xbox Game Pass, you will be thrilled to hear that the game will be available via Microsoft's subscription system on Day 1.

A Plague Tale: Requiem release date
