Deathloop has been delayed to Q2 2021, Arkane Studios Lyon has confirmed.

After being originally scheduled to release in December this year, the action-adventure title has been delayed to Q2 2021 in order to “bring Deathloop’s world to life with as much character and fun as you’ve come to expect from our team”.

In a statement released on Twitter, Arkane wrote: “Our ambition for Deathloop is to deliver a signature Arkane game that takes you to never-before-seen places in a stylish new world.

“At the same time, the health and safety of everyone at Arkane Lyon remains our top priority. As we’ve adjusted to work-from-home, we found that delivering this new and exciting experience, at the polish and quality level that defines both an Arkane game and a true next-gen experience, is taking longer than normal.

“This extra time will allow our team to bring Deathloop’s world to life with as much character and fun as you’ve come to expect from our team.”

They also teased an update on Deathloop’s progress will be “coming soon” from the studio.

Arkane Studios previous games include Dishonored, Dishonored 2 and 2017’s Prey, which have generally received critical acclaim.

While all game delays have an element of disappointment, this might come with added salt considering it's a PlayStation 5 console exclusive - meaning it will now miss the PS5's believed release window later this year.

Deathloop releases on PlayStation 5 and PC in Q2 2020.
