Destiny 2 goes free-to-play with New Light and Shadowkeep DLC launches

Destiny 2 will be free to play and keep on PC from today until 18th November ahead of the launch of the Shadowkeep DLC, allowing long-term fans and a new audience alike to the vast Destiny universe as they 'defend the Last City of humanity against the dark forces beyond our system'.

This is not a free trial or a demo, but the full game forever as long as it is downloaded before the mid-November deadline. It is likely the game goes back to its usual digital price, but should see frequent sales while on the Steam marketplace.

Coinciding with the release of this new content, Destiny 2 PC will be using Steam going forward and offered old players the ability to transfer accounts, expansions and other purchases from Battle.net. Any codes for Battle.net need to be used by launch or will no longer be redeemable.

Year one content Curse of Osiris and Warmind, Destiny 2's first two expansions, are included, but Forsaken and the new Shadowkeep DLC will be optional purchases for players going forward.

No cross-play is in the game right now, but it is something Bungie are 'interested in exploring more in the future'. The cross-transfer feature is seen as a step to enable people to play together at this current time as players can switch between platforms freely whenever they would like.

The game is now available to preload on Steam. Google Stadia are offering Destiny 2: The Collection (including the Shadowkeep and Forsaken expansions with Annual Passes, Curse of Osiris and Warmind) for 'free' as part of the Stadia Founder's Edition, with three months of Stadia Pro included (usually £8.99 a month).
