Fans have been clamouring for a Fallout 3 remake or remaster for years, and recent leaks have revealed that one could be on the way. Circulating online are leaked Microsoft documents that hint at a number of projects supposedly in the works. The biggest takeaways include upgraded Xbox Series X and S consoles, alongside a number of remasters — namely, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fallout 3.
The leaked documents have emerged via the FTC, with the ongoing trial against Microsoft regarding its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The timeline seen in the leaked documents is a little out of date, likely crafted pre-2020 before the gaming industry suffered an unprecedented setback thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Regardless, the titles that have been name-dropped in the documents is enough to spark imagination. So, where does Microsoft currently stand on the Fallout 3 Remaster? Here's what we know so far.

Fallout 3 Remaster Latest News
Information on a possible Fallout 3 Remaster has emerged after a Microsoft document was leaked, detailing some of the companies' previous plans regarding upcoming releases. The document appears to be from pre-2020, with the planned release schedules now out of date. Regardless, a Fallout 3 Remaster was initially marked for a release during the 2024 financial year. Given that the document is seemingly out of date, it's highly likely that we won't see Fallout 3 Remaster releasing in 2024.
Is Fallout 3 Getting A Remaster?
While yet to be officially announced by either Microsoft or Bethesda, a Fallout 3 Remaster seems to be on the table. In the leaked FTC documents, a Fallout 3 Remaster was initially marked for a release during the 2024 financial year. However, given that these documents offer an out of date schedule (Starfield initially slated for a 2021 release), it's safe to assume that we won't see the launch of a Fallout 3 Remaster for a few years.
Fallout 3 Remaster Speculated Release Date
It's highly unlikely that Fallout 3 Remaster will release during its initially slated 2024 window. If we assume that the majority of the planned releases are at least two years out of date, we could see a Fallout 3 Remaster drop sometime in 2026.
Within the same document, release schedules are also listed relating to an Oblivion Remaster initially scheduled for a 2022 release. Evidently, that hasn't happened. However, it remains possible that an Oblivion Remaster could release as early as 2024, with a Fallout 3 Remaster following a few years later. At the time of writing, Microsoft or Bethesda have not announced a release date for Fallout 3 Remaster.
Fallout 3 Remaster Speculated Platforms: Coming To PlayStation?
At the time of writing, a Fallout 3 Remaster has not been officially announced by Bethesda or Microsoft. However, should the leaks prove to be true, and a Fallout 3 Remaster is on the way, it is likely that it will only arrive on Xbox and PC.
With Bethesda having been acquired by Microsoft, and have been seemingly committed to releasing titles exclusively on Xbox consoles (Redfall, Starfield etc.), it wouldn't be a surprise if a Fallout 3 Remaster was also an Xbox exclusive. Despite the original Fallout 3 releasing on both PlayStation and Xbox back in 2008, it seems unlikely that the remaster will be given the same treatment.
