Kaiko Games Working On New Original "High Profile THQ Nordic IP"

German game development studio, Kaiko Games, has recently opened several job positions in its team as it sets to work on an "original game based on a high profile THQ Nordic IP in the action-adventure genre." As spotted by a user on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit on 29 January 2023, the company has listed positions for senior-level designers, graphics programmers, games programmers, tools and technology programmers, lead artists, technical animators, and technical artists.

The company joined the THQ Nordic Group in 2021, a leading game publisher behind acclaimed titles like Darksiders, Red Faction, Kingdoms of Amalur, and more, but has predominantly worked on remastering these THQ Nordic IPs. However, it appears Kaiko will collaborate with talented people from the company to bring an entirely new project to life. This comes after the listing specified that successful candidates would work on "an original game," suggesting that the new IP will not be remastered versions of any of the formerly mentioned THQ-owned properties.

While Kaiko Games has not yet released the name of its new project, fans of the THQ Nordic IPs are eagerly waiting to find out what the company has in store. As noted by the original poster u/Potatoslayer, "Given Kaiko [Games'] level of support for Amalur, as well as the writing that they are hiring for a 'high profile THQ Nordic IP,'" these job listings could point to another game under the Amalur IP -- perhaps a sequel?

Considering that the company's latest remaster, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning (in 2020), was met with mixed reviews, it's only natural that fans hope for its new project to live up to the expectations set by its previous titles and the THQ Nordic franchises. Overall, this news is a positive development for both Kaiko Games and THQ Nordic and sets the stage for a new and exciting action-adventure game that fans will surely be excited to play.

That said, Kaiko Games is committed to creating an inclusive work environment and encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply for its open positions. The company states that even if there is no open position that fits an applicant's qualifications, they can still send an unsolicited application. The company's goal is to bring together a team of talented individuals from different backgrounds to create an original and unforgettable gaming experience.
