Lizzo's "Juice" temporarily removed from Rock Band for making players sing the N-word

Lizzo's catchy 80s-style hit "Juice" was added to the Rock Band store, but then quickly removed and will be replaced with "an updated version".
Lizzo's "Juice" temporarily removed from Rock Band for making players sing the N-word

If you were wondering if Rock Band, the second biggest "music" game besides Guitar Hero, is still alive, the answer is - it's. Rock Band 4(2015) and Rock Band VR (2017) still have quite a significant audience and big popularity due to they still being popular amongst casual gamers, as a perfect entertainment for home or office parties, and in general, a great game to hang out with friends and family.

They are still actively adding songs to choose from, and one of the latest additions was "Juice" from American singer Lizzo. This catchy funk hip-hop song is mostly quite cheerful and looks like a perfect tune to sing with your friends at the party with Rock Band. But there was one problem that made Rock Band developers, Harmonix, to remove it from the store: it has the N-word in the lyrics. There's a line in the song that goes: "Hold up, ni**a, please," which was enough for Harmonix to remove it from the store.

In the same Tweet where they announced the removal of the song, they also assured fans that they are planning to put it back, but "an updated" version, which in practise means censured. Some fans are not OK with it, calling it blatant censorship and asking to add an option if you want the non-explicit version of the song or the original one, while others are supporting the decision.

This all started with a Reddit thread where someone posted a screenshot of the game with the N-word clearly visible. In the same thread, Harmonix Community Manager quickly commented that they are planning to update the song. He also stated: "We definitely aren't interested in censoring songs. It's not our place to change or omit words that may alter an artist's intended message."

The nature of the problem might be in the fact that this game is rated T. Titles rated T (Teen) have content that is generally suitable for ages 13 and up, according to ESRB guidance. This is not the first time that both Rock Band and Guitar Hero are censoring songs, but it is the first time that the song was pulled of the store to be censured. They usually simply go with the song they get from the partners (publishers, etc), but also censor some "bad" words from time to time, but only before the song was added.

"I mean, there are so many things that make it into Rock Band are pretty... erm, mature. There's the line from Rock Your Socks by Tenacious D: "Drop trou... and squeeze out a Cleveland Steamer on my chest," says Reddit user ValeforxD. "And then there's Cannibal Corpse's Hammer Smashed Face. Just...the whole song."

Do you think that song should be featured in their original version or you agree that some words should be censored?
