When is the next Nintendo Direct? That's the key question that is normally on the minds of all Nintendo Switch owners from one month to the next. And quite frankly, why not? It's when Nintendo normally rolls out the red carpet for surprise new announcements and also key updates on their release schedule, new amiibo, and plenty more Nintendo-related news. The only bad news is that Nintendo rarely commits to any sort of schedule for these live shows, so predicting when they could happen is quite tricky. Here's everything we know.

When Was the Last Nintendo Direct

The last Nintendo Direct aired on 27 February 2024 focussed on Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

When is the next Nintendo Direct?

Obviously, this is purely speculation on our part, but if we had to guess, the next Nintendo Direct won't air until June 2024.

This would likely tie into the wider Summer Games Fest streams which will be taking place. As for what we can expect, we imagine it will go one of two ways. It'll either be really lite for games, or potentially absolutely packed with announcments. Not least with a possible Nintendo Switch 2 console coming next year.

How Often Is There A Nintendo Direct

There's no hard rule on how many Nintendo Direct presentations the company will host each year. Broadly speaking the company will host three longer Nintendo Direct Presentations across the year.

In between these larger Nintendo Directs, we also tend to see a handful of smaller presentations, which either focus on specific titles or indies.

There's also the occasional 'Pokemon Presents' style Nintendo Direct, which as you've guessed, will focus on the Pokemon Games on Nintendo platforms.

In 2022, fans of Nintendo got 8 presentations throughout the year, down from 12 in 2021 and 19 in 2020. Of course, this could simply be a result of the Nintendo Switch coming towards the end of its lifecycle, and we might see an increase when the Switch is eventually surpassed by whatever Nintendo is designing as their next hardware iteration.
