Rockstar will help COVID-19 relief efforts with 5% of all in-game purchases

Rockstar Games has joined the long list of video game developers that will donate to fight COVID-19.
Rockstar will help COVID-19 relief efforts with 5% of all in-game purchases

Rockstar Games, the creator of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, decided that it's time to act: from now until the end of May(2 full months), they will donate 5% of all in-game purchases from their flagship online games: GTA Online and Red Dead Online.

If this doesn't sound like too much to you, you should know that these two games are making an insane amount of money, and are amongst best selling games in history. GTA V sales reached 120 million copies as of February, while Red Dead Redemption 2 sold around ~30 million copies in just a year and a half since its launch in November 2018. Both games have huge online communities in their respective online parts - GTA Online and Red Dead Online. So the amount of money that will go to charity should be quite substantial after two months.

"Small businesses have closed their doors, and communities who rely on government-provided support that they cannot access are struggling. The road ahead will be challenging, and we want to help where we can," Rockstar wrote in the statement.

It should be noted tho that this applies only to revenue from UK, India and North America since the studio operates there. So it won't be 5% of all revenue collected, instead just from those countries.
