The hype for Sonic X Shadow Generations has been building rapidly as we approach its release later this month. While we can’t confirm too many details about the storyline yet, we do have some insight into how long it will take to complete.
The developers have come forward to reveal the game's length and how much time you can expect to spend if you plan on exploring everything it has to offer. Let's dive in and see how long it will take to beat the Shadow campaign in Sonic X Shadow Generations.
Sonic X Shadow Generations Reveals Time To Beat
In a recent interview with Famitsu (translated by ResetEra), Sonic Team producer Shun Nakamura shared insights about the upcoming release of Sonic X Shadow Generations. One key detail he mentioned was that the length of the Shadow campaign would be "about the same" as Sonic Generations.
He elaborated, saying, "It depends on how you play, but I think the play volume of Shadow Generations is about the same as Sonic Generations or maybe a little less. If you play both, you can enjoy it for a long time. In the past, only Sonic Generations was released, so it’s a great deal." This gives us a rough estimate of the total gameplay length compared to Sonic Generations.
According to HowLongToBeat, Sonic Generations features a 5.5-hour campaign for the main story and an additional 16 hours for completionists aiming for 100%. If Shadow's campaign is similarly timed, we can expect around 30 hours of gameplay for both the base game and all achievements.
This is further supported by the confirmation that Sonic X Shadow Generations is a standalone title, meaning it's a full package in terms of story and gameplay, not just an add-on.
However, it’s important to note that the game won't be sold separately—you'll need to purchase the Sonic X Shadow Generations bundle. Fortunately, there's plenty to do, and if you haven’t played Sonic Generations yet, this is a great opportunity to experience both titles.
Sonic X Shadow Generations will be available on October 25th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. We’re excited to see everyone on launch day!
