Digital Extremes

Whispers in the Walls is the next cinematic arc in the free-to-play looter-shooter Warframe. After the addition of the unique rogue-lite expansion, The Duviri Paradox, Digital Extremes is continuing the Tenno storyline with this latest offering.

I was lucky enough to get an early look at the first 10 minutes of the TennoCon 2023 gameplay of the Whispers in the Walls expansion and was pleasantly surprised to see some of the things it's bringing to the Warframe universe.

Warframe: Whispers in the Walls Adds a New Grimoire Weapon Type

The trailer opens up with a mysterious character holding an even more mysterious object in their hand - a cell phone! Now, what's a cellphone doing in Warframe? I was actually left wondering the same.

The demo takes place in the Basement of Necralisk which now has a hub area. Necralisk looks a little different here though, thanks to Warframe's new lightning tech, which game director Rebecca Ford was quite eager to point out.

Better lighting isn't the only new thing in Whispers in the Walls. There's a new weapon type called Grimoire, which is actually an incredibly stylish book that you can harness for magic attacks. Yes, in 2023, your Tenno can use witchcraft. In all seriousness, the Grimoire does look pretty fun to use and will be fully moddable like other weapons in the game. Also, you can use it pretty much everywhere in the game.

Warframe: Whispers in the Walls Adds Two New Enemy Factions

Speaking of new stuff, this upcoming update will also add two enemy factions to the game. The gameplay footage showcases one of those, and I'm curious to know how they fit into the Warframe universe.

Structurally, you can expect Whispers in the Walls to be similar to Warframe's previous expansions. It will feature new missions, new NPCs, new factions, and even new tile sets.

If you're new to Warframe, don't forget to finish the base campaign and up to The New War Expansion, as those are the prerequisites for Whispers in the Walls.

Warframe: Whispers in the Walls arrives this winter.
